Outdoor Learning

Learning need not take place solely within educational buildings. Outdoor time often provides the most memorable learning experiences and helps children to make sense of the world around them by putting their learning into a meaningful context.

We believe that every child should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development and that is why we have made this one of our key priorities at Dallas Road The outdoor environment has massive potential for providing learning opportunities.

Our local community is well equipped to meet our outdoor learning needs. Our Reception children experience 'Garden School' at Dallas Road Gardens.

Year 1 make regular trips to Storey Gardens.

All of our classes take the opportunity to visit the nearby Fairfield Orchard and Nature Reserve.

The primary aims of our outdoor learning experiences are:

  • To develop children’s personal, social and emotional development.
  • To build resilient, determined and independent learners.
  • To build confidence and self esteem.
  • To promote collaboration.
  • To develop creativity and imagination.
  • To support development of children’s life skills and experiences.
  • To enable children to gain an appreciation for the natural environment and wildlife.
  • To support wellbeing and connections with nature.
